The internet is failing to protect the LGBTQ+ community. Every single day, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, asexual, and non-binary individuals face online hostility, targeted harassment, and rising discrimination.

Social media companies claim to support inclusion, but their current systems allow harmful content to spread too easily. When negative rhetoric goes unchecked online, it gives bad actors room to target, silence, and endanger people under the queer umbrella.

Current content moderation isn’t working. Platforms often prioritise engagement over the safety of vulnerable users. This inaction has real-world consequences, fuelling a mental health crisis and putting our community at risk.

We are all human and have one chance at life. Hurting someone for simply being themselves doesn’t only affect them — it harms all of us.

Despite attempts to silence us, we are proud of who we are. We refuse to be hidden, and we refuse to back down. Being who you are is not a bad thing. It proves you’re brave enough to step into the light.

We call on social media companies and regulators to take immediate action to protect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and all LGBTQ+ individuals by:

Zero Tolerance: Permanently restrict accounts that spread hate speech, harass, or deliberately invalidate sexual orientations and gender identities. Stop giving hostility a platform.

Better Moderation: Replace slow, passive reporting systems with proactive moderation that understands modern online harassment and erasure.

Protect Victims: Implement stronger safeguards against doxxing, brigading, and targeted harassment campaigns, with extra protections for minors.

Accountability: Publish transparent reports on how safety concerns are handled and take responsibility when preventable harm occurs.
