The Issue

After yesterdays announcement that Option B is to be located in Raheen, Co. Limerick. County Clare finds itself at a critical juncture as its residents continue to face severe healthcare challenges due to the lack of an adequate acute hospital facility. This decision has left the community vulnerable, without the necessary resources to provide urgent care, effectively compromising the health and well-being of Clare's residents especially those of us living in West and North Clare.

This untenable situation requires immediate intervention from the Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill. The people of County Clare are calling for the acquisition of land for the construction of a Model 3/4 Acute Hospital within the region, or alternatively, the resignation of Minister MacNeill if this urgent need cannot be met. An acute hospital would not only ensure immediate and necessary healthcare for the community but would also address long-term regional healthcare deficiencies, providing services closer to home and reducing pressure on surrounding health facilities.

Statistics reveal that Clare is the only county in Munster with an international airport but without its own Accident & Emergency department. This demonstrates a clear imbalance in healthcare provision that must be rectified. Residents have been patient and supportive, allowing both current and previous governments the opportunity to address this critical issue, but without substantial progress.

The construction of a new acute hospital would not only serve the urgent healthcare needs but also boost local employment and economy through infrastructure development. By acting swiftly, the government can restore faith among the people of Clare that their voices are heard and their health is a priority.

We the undersigned on behalf of the people of Clare urge Minister MacNeill to take decisive action: procure land in County Clare for this indispensable healthcare facility immediately or tender resignation. The people of Clare demand a proactive approach to secure their health and future.

I urge you and Clare's diaspora to sign this petition to show your support for the immediate acquisition of land for a Model 3/4 Acute Hospital in County Clare and demand accountability and action from our government.
