Demand honest and accurate Olive Oil labelling for ALL Olive Oils sold in Australia

The issue

Changes to the labelling laws for Olive Oil WILL result in ALL olive oils sold in Australia (domestic and imported), being labelled according to the quality of the oil inside the package.  The ACCC think that consumers don't care whether or not they are buying a substandard product at a high price, because consumers don't contact them about this, but we know that consumers don't raise this as an issue because they are unaware of how much they are being ripped off.

At the moment, there is a huge amount of low grade olive oil being sold as high quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO).  If the Australian Standard for Olive Oil is made law, consumers will see these lower grades of olive oil labelled according to their actual quality and not as EVOO.

If we continue to allow the existing Australian Standard for Olive Oil to remain as a VOLUNTARY standard we have no hope of getting the importers of olive oil to lift their game and label their oils according to its quality.

It is vital to Aussie olive farmers and to you as consumers that this problem is fixed.  The quickest, and most effective thing to do is for the Minister for Competition Policy and Consumer Affairs to make the existing Australian Standard for Olive Oil and Olive Pomace Oil (AS5264-2011) LAW.

Please sign this petition and tell the Minister that you do care and that you want to see better truth in labelling when it comes to Olive Oil sold in Australia.
