I am a resident of Hinckley, deeply affected by the speculative housing developments that are causing undue stress on our local services. These developments are not just bricks and mortar; they change the fabric of our community, strain our resources, and disrupt our daily lives. The root cause is an outdated local plan maintained by the Lib Dem-run Hinckley and Bosworth council.

The current situation allows developers to exploit loopholes in planning laws due to this outdated local plan. This results in proposals being sent to an independent planning inspectorate who often approves them due to lack of up-to-date guidance from our council.

According to data from the Office for National Statistics, Hinckley has seen a population increase of 10% over the last decade (source: ONS). This growth rate is expected to continue or even accelerate if unchecked speculative development continues.

We need immediate action from the Lib Dem-run council. We urge them for an update but also a confirmed timetable, and justification for their current failure of our local plan. Pushing back the update, and presenting a schedule as doing what is required is an untruth. This will ensure that all future developments align with what's best for us – residents of Hinckley and Bosworth – rather than what's most profitable for developers.
