The Issue

As an American citizen deeply concerned about the health of our democracy, I have watched the nation's election process gradually narrow to the point where, only two candidates are given as options and debates seldom come. This restrictive political landscape reduces our choices and squeezes the time we have to make informed decisions. This isn't just undemocratic; it's a threat to the very idea of democracy.

Consensus in political science indeed suggests that a broader electoral field could lead to a greater diversity of ideas and ensure that more voices are heard. A survey of 178 countries done by the World Bank found that countries with more political parties were less likely to have violent conflicts (Source: World Bank Group). By incorporating more voices, the likelihood of more parties serving as representatives of various demographic groups increases, ensuring a more equitable democratic system.

So, let's push for Change. We petition the Federal Election Commission and major media outlets to mandate a minimum of 10 candidates for a United States general election with equal media exposure in all future debates. This change will not only ensure a fairer selection pool for voters but also aid in incorporating a wider variety of voices that might currently be going unheard.

If you care about maintaining a thriving, inclusive democracy in the United States, I urge you to join this cause. Sign the petition today. Let's increase our choices and save our democracy.
