"We, the residents of The Avenue development in Wingerworth, call upon Tilia Homes and the planning department at North East Derbyshire District Council to urgently prioritise the delivery of a local convenience shop /retail centre on the estate.  
As a rapidly growing community, alot of households now live on The Avenue. 

Residents have no pedestrian access to everyday essentials, meaning every minor grocery trip requires a drive off the estate. A local shop would drastically reduce short car journeys, lower carbon emissions, and provide a vital hub for the community. 
We urge Tilia Homes to actively market the designated commercial parcels of land to retail providers (such as SPAR, Nisa, or Co-op) and request that North East Derbyshire District Council hold the developers accountable to the community infrastructure promises outlined in the estate's original master plans." 
 

As a resident, I find myself having to get into my car and drive for basic necessities because there are NO immediate shopping options nearby. This situation is not only inconvenient but also impacts our community's sense of cohesion and environmental footprint.

Wingerworth has grown considerably over the last few years, with more families and individuals moving into the area. However, the infrastructure for daily essentials hasn't caught up with the increased population. Many residents have expressed the same frustration of needing to undertake a journey of several miles just to purchase essentials such as milk, bread, or toiletries. This is not just inconvenient; it is unsustainable and does not promote a walkable or accessible community lifestyle.

According to the latest data from the local council, the population of Wingerworth estate has increased by approximately 20% over the past decade. Yet, there’s been little to no development in terms of closer amenities.... Studies show that easy access to local shops not only promotes social interactions but also boosts local economies and reduces carbon footprints thanks to reduced vehicular emissions.

By establishing a local shop, we would be supporting the elderly, those without access to transport, and promoting more environmentally friendly practices within our community. Local shops have been shown to decrease carbon footprints significantly and stimulate local economies by keeping money within the community, thereby fostering economic growth.

We propose that the local government consider plans to introduce a small convenience store on Wingerworth estate. This development could encourage local entrepreneurship, provide job opportunities, and most importantly, give residents like myself the ability to purchase everyday items without the need for a car journey.

It is time for our leaders to listen and act upon the needs of our thriving community.
