The Issue

I am a mother caught in a battle, one that no parent should have to face. The family court system, designed to protect the vulnerable, fails to take domestic abuse as seriously as it should. Instead, it often mandates that children be handed over to their abusers. It’s a situation I, like many others, find myself trapped in, as the system forces us to let our children become part of a cycle of harm, rather than being safeguarded

The core issue lies in the lack of stringent measures in place within the family court system to adequately assess and act on the risk posed by parents with a history of domestic violence. It is paramount that family courts shift their priority toward the child's safety and well-being, rather than the mere presumption of parental rights.

I urge lawmakers to implement mandatory training for family court judges and officials on the dynamics of domestic abuse and the long-term psychological impact it has on children. Furthermore, legislative reforms should be introduced to ensure thorough investigations into claims of abuse before custody is granted—a child's safety should never be jeopardized by court processes.

Please stand with me in calling for an overhaul of the family court system, placing emphasis on safeguarding our children and ensuring that justice truly serves those it is meant to protect. Sign this petition to demand that our family courts put the safety and well-being of children above all else and to stop mothers who are protecting there child to be forced into giving are children to the abusers.
