Demand Fairer Sentencing and Better Representation for the Incarcerated

Demand Fairer Sentencing and Better Representation for the Incarcerated
The Issue
Our community needs its families intact. Every day, countless families are torn apart due to prolonged and inordinate sentencing. Our incarcerated loved ones in Illinois are being over-sentenced, with bills repeatedly proposed and then left to linger, fostering feelings of despair and hopelessness for our families. With the latest bill being HB2367. This bill has a large amount of support from families in Illinois. For us as a whole to keep getting pushed back after standing tall and proudly for all the work we have put into this bill ourselves.
Over 30,000 individuals are currently incarcerated in the state of Illinois. An astonishing rate that surpasses many states. While alleged criminal acts may account for some of these cases, the reality remains that our legislative bodies persistently fail to fully address the punitive nature of our justice system or offer viable paths to rehabilitation. Instead, our state representatives and senators continue to neglect the urgent needs and calls for change from their constituents. Ignoring us and not having our backs when it comes to supporting us, or our loved ones with extended sentences in Illinois.
The anguish isn't just ours alone. It is a shared pain among thousands of households across the state who continue to hope for fairer, more compassionate legislation that truly serves the interests of its people. It is clear that our community, along with many others, will continue to suffer until legislators take decisive action.
As we are supporters of many issues around the country, why are we, as community members, being put behind these issues? As if the broken families haven’t been an ongoing issue for decades!! We are tired and fed up with all things coming before our families!
This petition, however, represents a plea for change and a cry for justice. It is an opportunity for us to voice our collective concerns about an overlooked flaw in our justice system and demand to be heard by those with the power to bring about change. By signing this petition, you're standing with us, the distraught families, in our shared fight for justice for our loved ones and for the betterment of our society as a whole.
Take a stand with us. Demand fairer sentencing and better representation for the incarcerated. We demand change and accountability from legislators!!!
WE MATTER TOO!!!
