Justice for Tremarqese Myers– A Hardworking Father Facing Unfair Charges
I am writing this on behalf of Myers, A man who has spent the last decade proving that people can change.
Over ten years ago, at just 18 years old, he made a choice that cost him ten years of his life in prison. He served his time, came home determined to live differently, and he did just that starting his own business, working hard, and contributing positively to his community.
But now, despite his rehabilitation he is facing a devastating injustice in Marietta GA and is being housed at Cobb county jail.
On February 17, 2025 while on a service call for his business, two young men called for a service and after completing the service they attempted to run off with out paying for the service. Acting on instinct to protect his livelihood, Myers grabbed one of them to stop the theft. So because of a bystander’s misinterpretation of events not the boys themselves calling the police he is now being charged with kidnapping.
This is not justice. This is a hardworking man being punished for trying to protect what he built.
What makes this worse is that Georgia courts are denying him bond and has been sitting for 6 months not because of the current case’s facts, but because of something that happened more than a decade ago, for which he has already paid his debt to society. His past is being used to rob him of his present and future.
He is not a danger to society. He is a rehabilitated, productive member of the community, a father, a business owner, and a man who acted in the moment to prevent a theft.
Our criminal justice system is supposed to recognize rehabilitation. If it doesn’t, what hope is there for anyone trying to change?
We are mainly fighting for the kidnapping charge to be dropped or at least grant Myers bail so he can fight his case from home.
Judge this case on its own merits, without the shadow of his past.
Recognize that defending your livelihood is not the same as committing a violent crime.
