Demand Fair Parking Practices at Tennessee Tech University

Demand Fair Parking Practices at Tennessee Tech University
The Issue
Many students at Tennessee Tech, including my friends and I, are caught in a frustrating situation. We have purchased parking passes, but find ourselves unable to secure parking due to over-selling and a lack of available spaces. This has led to students being forced to park in unauthorized zones only to end up with hefty tickets for "illegal" parking.
Despite having sold more parking passes than there are spots, the university continues to penalize students instead of addressing the real issue — the imbalance between the number of passes sold and the parking capacity. This situation speaks volumes about the university's approach towards student welfare and paints a clear picture of an education institution prioritizing financial gain over students' convenience.
This issue requires immediate attention. Students should not be penalized for a problem caused by the university's poor planning and failure to provide enough parking spaces. We pay for our parking passes expecting that we have a guaranteed parking spot on campus. When this expectation is not fulfilled, we should not have to pay additional fines.
We, the undersigned, call on Tennessee Tech University to establish a fair parking system that accurately matches the number of passes sold to the parking capacity available. In instances where this is not possible, alternative solutions should be provided rather than penalizing students who have nowhere else to park.
By signing this petition, we are urging Tennessee Tech University to reconsider its parking policies and make necessary changes to ensure a fair and accommodating environment for its students. Please sign this petition to voice your support for fair and sensible parking practices at Tennessee Tech University.
