Demand Fair Bathroom Access for Students in Schools

The Issue

This is a deeply personal issue. I was on my period and asked to use the bathroom, yet my teacher allowed everyone else to go but me. It's time we address the unfair bathroom policies in our schools that are affecting students' health and dignity.

In Kyle, TX, USA, many students face restrictions when it comes to using the restroom during class hours. Teachers often deny us access due to rules like the '10-10 rule', which prohibits us from going during the first or last 10 minutes of class. If we try to go before class starts, we risk being late.

These policies are not just inconvenient; they can also have serious health implications. According to a study by The National Association for Continence (NAFC), holding urine for too long can lead to urinary tract infections and other health issues.

Moreover, these rules disproportionately affect menstruating students who may need more frequent access to bathrooms. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists states that some people may need to change their menstrual product every 2-3 hours on heavy flow days.

It's time our schools recognize that bathroom access is a basic human right and not something that can be denied based on arbitrary rules or at a teacher's discretion. We demand fair bathroom policies in all schools across hays cisd ones that respect our bodily autonomy and needs.

Please sign this petition if you believe in fair bathroom access for all students!
