Demand Eurovision Voting Transparency – Audit the Public Vote to Protect the Contest
The Issue
To the European Broadcasting Union and the Eurovision Song Contest Reference Group:
We, the undersigned fans and supporters of the Eurovision Song Contest, are calling for immediate action to protect the integrity of this beloved competition. Eurovision stands for unity, fairness, and the voice of the people. Yet recent contests have raised serious concerns about the transparency and credibility of the public voting process.
In the last two years, we have witnessed:
- Suspicious public voting patterns, including dramatic and unexplained surges in support for some countries that were not front-runners in polls or streaming metrics.
- Confirmed state-orchestrated campaigns aimed at influencing the televote, with Israeli officials admitting they actively mobilized “friendly” populations across Europe in 2024.
- A lack of detailed public voting data, leaving fans and even broadcasters in the dark about how results were counted and verified.
Limited recourse for broadcasters like RTV Slovenia, who formally questioned the accuracy of results and were left without clear answers from the EBU. - We believe the current lack of transparency puts the Contest’s credibility at risk. If Eurovision is to remain a fair celebration of music and unity across Europe and beyond, the public must be able to trust that their votes are counted fairly, without manipulation or exploitation.
We respectfully demand the following:
- An Independent Audit of Televoting Results
Commission a third-party auditor (independent from EBU’s existing voting partners) to review public voting data from the 2024 and 2025 contests. This audit should be published in full, verifying that results were legitimate and free from outside manipulation. - Detailed Publication of Public Voting Data
Release anonymized, country-level data on the number of televotes received by each act, platform distribution (app/SMS/phone), and details of any invalidated votes. Public votes should not be a black box. - Stronger Safeguards Against Vote Manipulation
Reform the televoting process to protect it from being gamed. This includes addressing vulnerabilities like mass voting via SIM cards or online manipulation, and creating clear rules around ethical promotion (e.g. banning state-organized vote campaigns abroad).
We raise this petition not to criticize Eurovision, but to protect it. Eurovision belongs to the people. It should reflect the true will of its audience – not the influence of orchestrated campaigns, opaque systems, or loopholes that allow the vote to be compromised.
We urge the EBU and the Eurovision leadership to act in the interest of fairness, transparency, and public trust. Prove to fans that Eurovision is not just entertaining – it’s also accountable. If Eurovision is to live up to being “United in Music,” then every voice must count, and every vote must be trusted.
Sincerely,
Eurovision supporters,
Believers in the power of European democracy,
And in a continent united through music.
