As a person suffering from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), I fear the thought of having contraceptive devices fitted for pain management - a fear stemmed from my own uncomfortable experience with a cervical exam. However, it saddens me more to read countless testimonies of fellow women who have had to endure excruciating pain during cervical treatments like biopsies and contraceptive fittings, while being unfairly overlooked for proper pain relief provisions. There is an alarming number of such horror stories, underscoring the systemic neglect of women's healthcare.

By comparison, men are routinely offered anesthesia during similar procedures, reflecting an unjust health disparity. To rectify this, we must ensure that all women are offered appropriate, equal and fair pain relief and aftercare during such procedures.

Women's pain is very real and often overlooked – a reality that needs to change. In the interest of gender equity, patient rights, and above all, compassionate care, we demand that all healthcare providers extend the same level of pain relief care to all, regardless of gender. According to studies, around 61% of women experience pain during cervical procedures, yet appropriate pain management measures are rarely employed (Research source: British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology).
