Demand Equal Care and Support for Prenatal Programs in Surrey, BC

The Issue

This petition is born out of a deeply personal struggle. After 16 long months in a prenatal care program in Surrey, British Columbia, the only support received was one housing offer. Now, an eviction notice looms just two weeks away. This story is not unique; it's a harsh reality for many families who are part of this program.

The lack of adequate support and care provided by the existing system has left countless families vulnerable. It's not just about housing - it's about identification, family connection and overall well-being during one of the most critical times in life - pregnancy.

According to Statistics Canada (2019), Surrey has one of the highest birth rates among major cities across Canada. Yet despite this high demand for prenatal services, there remains a significant gap between need and provision.

This petition calls on local health authorities and policymakers to ensure equal care and support are provided to all participants in prenatal programs across Surrey. We urge them to review current policies, allocate appropriate resources where they're needed most – such as housing – and establish mechanisms that foster family connections.

We demand immediate action to stop community health care from drug screening pregnant women without consent.

Birth alerts are illegal.  We demand action to stop prenatal care providers from this destruction of our families.

It’s time we stand up for those who are often overlooked or underserved by our healthcare system. Let us ensure every mother-to-be receives equal care regardless of their circumstances or background.
