Demand Enhanced Security and Fixes for Exploits in All Call of Duty Games
The Issue
The community of Call of Duty players is gravely concerned about the safety and security of the franchise's previous games. Our primary focus lies with Black Ops 3, which has been flagged as a threat by antivirus software Malwarebytes due to server redirection to an unidentified IP from China. Whilst it has not been confirmed directly by Activision whether or not this is a false positive, it is widely speculated that it is due to only Malwarebytes users receiving this warning however the game has been confirmed not to be safe regardless of if this is true or not due to multiple exploits that allow backend access to PC's running the game online. This alarming occurrence has led to the hacking of personal accounts that users were logged into while playing the game, compromising their private information.
Call of Duty, being a critically acclaimed game series by Activision, has millions of dedicated players around the globe. This significant event affects an extensive demographic of players, instilling fear and insecurity while enjoying one of their preferred pastimes.
Despite these serious issues, Activision continues to sell these older Call of Duty games at full price in most digital storefronts, with no warnings or disclaimers regarding the security vulnerabilities. The lack of transparency from a major publisher like Activision lures consumers into a false sense of security, relying on the brand’s reputation without acknowledging the significant risks involved. No official announcements or updates addressing these critical flaws have been made on the game pages themselves, leaving many unaware of the potential dangers lurking within.
We urge the developers and relevant authorities to address these issues urgently, patching any security holes and hardening game servers against external threats. This is not just a matter of enhancing the gaming experience; it's about protecting the trust players place in the developers to safeguard their personal data.
We respectfully call upon Activision, and all involved parties, to take immediate and effective measures to rectify these issues. Your consumers deserve to game in a secure environment, free of any threats to their personal data or gaming devices. Please listen to our concerns and take swift action to fix these longstanding security vulnerabilities in all past Call of Duty games, most notably in Black Ops 3.
Join us by signing this petition today and make a stand for secure gaming – because a threat to one gamer is a threat to all.
