The out-of-control dumping needs to end now!  The Oakland Hills need to be cleaned up and returned to a pristine state.

The Oakland Hills contain beautiful watersheds feeding local reservoirs and should be protected. Bikers, hikers, and motorists enjoy these hills for their beauty which has increasingly become marred by an alarming increase in illegal dumping, which not only impacts the natural beauty but also threatens the health of our water supply.

The dumping scenes, in a high-fire risk area, can be overwhelming and shocking; scores of cars dumped into ravines, hundreds of tires sitting in creeks for decades, and massive amounts of commercial dumping down beautiful creek ravines.  It is unacceptable that these areas have not been completely cleaned up and preventative measures put in place to protect this important resource.  

We stress the importance that East Bay Parks and Contra Costa County take immediate action by cleaning up existing waste, installing preventative measures such as fencing and cameras, and increasing enforcement to deter future dumping. Our community deserves a clean and safe environment.  Volunteers have offered to assist in this clean-up effort.
