Demand Detroit Metro Airport Take Down Politicized TSA Video Blaming Democrats

Demand Detroit Metro Airport Take Down Politicized TSA Video Blaming Democrats
The Issue
Travelers passing through Detroit Metro Airport deserve a neutral, nonpartisan environment—especially in spaces operated by federal agencies like the TSA. Yet right now, passengers are being shown a controversial video from Homeland Security featuring Kristi Noem blaming Democrats for the government shutdown. This kind of political messaging doesn’t belong at an airport, and it violates the spirit—if not the letter—of the Hatch Act, which prohibits political activity by federal employees in their official roles.
Airports in cities across the country, including Chicago, Portland, and Phoenix, have declined to show this video. Several Michigan airports—including Lansing, Traverse City, Kalamazoo, and Saginaw—have also chosen not to air the message, citing policies that prohibit political or partisan content. Even Marquette’s Sawyer Regional Airport, which initially aired the video, paused it once community members raised concerns.
But at Detroit Metro Airport, where over 10 million passengers have flown this year, the video is still playing on TSA-operated screens. The Wayne County Airport Authority says it has no control over what appears on these monitors, but that doesn’t absolve them—or the TSA—from responsibility. Travelers should not be subjected to one-sided political propaganda in a public space they cannot opt out of.
This is a matter of fairness and public trust. The Department of Homeland Security and TSA must immediately remove this video from all screens at Detroit Metro Airport and any other Michigan airport still airing it. Passengers have a right to travel without being exposed to partisan messaging—especially from a federal agency tasked with keeping us safe.
Sign this petition to tell TSA Administrator David Pekoske and Detroit Metro Airport leadership: take down the Kristi Noem video now.
