Demand Cornwall Council investigates child sex offender's living arrangements
The Issue
In our community in Saltash, Cornwall, we are facing a situation that has cast a shadow on our shared sense of security: a convicted child sex offender resides alarmingly close to two schools. This issue strikes a personal chord with me as a resident who deeply believes in safeguarding our children. St Stephen's School is directly overlooked by this individual's property, and many children from Saltash Community School regularly pass by this residence. This reality is incredibly disconcerting for every parent and resident who calls this town home.
The proximity of this individual to our schools poses an undeniable risk to the safety and well-being of our children — our most vulnerable community members. It's not just a matter of public safety; it’s about preserving the peace of mind that parents should have when their children travel to and from school. It’s about ensuring our children’s right to a safe upbringing in the community they call home.
Cornwall Council has the power to address this issue by reviewing the conditions under which this individual is permitted to reside so near to places regularly frequented by children. We propose that Cornwall Council thoroughly investigates alternative accommodations for this person that would not place them in direct proximity to schools or areas with high child traffic. By collaborating with local law enforcement and community organizations, the Council can ensure a balanced approach that upholds both community safety and the legal rights of the individual in question.
We understand the complexity involved in such matters, but we strongly believe that the safety of our children should be the top priority. We urge Cornwall Council to act swiftly and decisively, evaluating all available options to resolve this concern while respecting the legalities involved. Together, let us work towards a solution that reinstates trust and safety in our community.
Join us in calling on Cornwall Council to take immediate action. Every signature brings us closer to our goal: a safer environment for the children of Saltash. Sign this petition to make your voice heard and demand change for the betterment of our community.
