Demand Continued House Arrest for Whitney Weddel's Drunk Driving Killer

Demand Continued House Arrest for Whitney Weddel's Drunk Driving Killer
The Issue
Our beloved friend, Whitney Weddel, an ER Nurse and educator who inspired countless young people to join the healthcare profession, was tragically killed by a drunk driver on February 8, 2024. This petition is not just about seeking justice for Whitney; it's about ensuring safety in our community of San Antonio, TX.
The woman responsible for this tragedy is currently under house arrest but is requesting to be released and monitored via GPS. We find this unacceptable. She has already violated her house arrest conditions and continues to drink irresponsibly. Her actions show no remorse for the life she took away from us too soon.
Whitney dedicated her life to saving others as an ER nurse for over 13 years. She was a pillar of strength in our community and touched many lives through her work as an educator. Her loss has left a void that can never be filled.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately one-third of all traffic crash fatalities in the United States involve drunk drivers (with blood alcohol concentrations [BACs] of .08 g/dL or higher). In 2019 alone, there were 10,142 people killed in these preventable crashes.
We cannot allow another family or community to suffer like we have because someone chose to drink and drive recklessly. The woman responsible must face appropriate consequences for her actions - she should remain on house arrest until sentencing.
Please sign this petition if you believe that justice needs to be served not only for Whitney but also as a deterrent against future drunk driving incidents in San Antonio and beyond.
