The Issue

For years, U.S. immigration policy has shaped the lives of millions—families separated, individuals detained, and entire communities impacted by decisions made at the highest levels of government. Yet one of the key figures involved in shaping these policies, Stephen Miller, has never been required to testify in a public congressional hearing about his role in their development.

Critics—including immigration experts, civil rights advocates, faith leaders, and elected officials from both parties—have raised serious concerns about the humanitarian, legal, and ethical consequences of these policies.

However, the American public has never had the opportunity to hear—in a transparent and accountable setting—how these policies were created, what factors influenced them, what legal and humanitarian concerns were considered, and how their impacts on millions of families and individuals were evaluated.

Congress has both the authority and the responsibility to conduct oversight of the policies that affect millions of people. Public hearings are a fundamental part of that process—ensuring transparency, accountability, and trust in government decision-making.

At a time when immigration remains one of the most consequential and debated issues in the United States, the public deserves a clear understanding of how these policies were shaped and by whom.

We call on the U.S. Senate and House Judiciary Committees to compel Stephen Miller to publicly testify under oath regarding his role in developing and advancing some of the most controversial immigration policies in modern U.S. history.

These hearings should:

  • Examine the creation and implementation of policies including family separation, expanded detention practices, and aggressive immigration enforcement operations
  • Provide the American public with transparency regarding how these policies were developed and justified
  • Assess the humanitarian, legal, and constitutional consequences of these policies
  • Be conducted publicly and made fully accessible to the American people

Accountability is not partisan—it is foundational to a functioning democracy.
