Help Prevent Drowning: Require Water Safety Education in NJ Schools

The Issue

It is time to take action and require water safety to be taught in school as part of health and physical education!  Please support A-618 that requires instruction on water safety as part of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Health and Physical Education for grades K-12.

Five years ago, I introduced this bill after a tragic accident in my legislative district in which two children drowned in the ocean at an unguarded beach. But we hear similar heartbreaking stories from all over the state. Since that time, I have been contacted by countless professionals in the swimming industry, emergency responders, lifeguards, parents, and educators concerned about water safety and wanting to prevent future tragedies.

Please join me in signing this petition and sending a clear message to the New Jersey Legislative leaders that water safety for all students is a priority! I am hoping to get hundreds of signatures before May, National Water Safety Awareness Month, and have the bill posted for a vote in the Assembly Education Committee.
