I, like many others, have suffered from a condition known as Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) for years. Despite being properly diagnosed, I was essentially tossed aside by my Gastroenterologists, supplied with limited information, discouraged by little research, and presented no real medical guidance. I was then compelled to explore holistic care, which has resulted in substantial medical debt.

Now, I stand with countless others demanding a change. We urge all insurance companies, including Medicare & Medicaid, to cover testing for SIBO and make it more accessible to patients. Furthermore, there is a pressing need to deepen the understanding of SIBO amongst medical practitioners to minimize misdiagnosis and ensure effective treatment strategies.

Additionally, coverage should be extended to include XIFAXAN® (rifaximin), the only FDA-approved medication for treating SIBO. At present, without coverage, the average cost of this medication stands at a whopping $2,500. Even with insurance, patients have found themselves confronted with co-pays as high as $725. This is unacceptable.

No individual living with SIBO should have to bear such disproportionate financial burdens for seeking necessary and effective treatment. It's our right to have accessible and affordable healthcare. Therefore, I urge, not only the residents of Hanover Park, IL, USA but extensible to every individual that resonates with this cause, to sign this petition. Together, we can demand a change. Together, we can ensure that no SIBO patient is left to feel abandoned or financially strained by their medical care.
