Demand City Repair Vital Community Bridge and Implement Cul-de-Sac

The Issue

Our community is built on the foundation of unity and shared values. One such value is the belief in safety, easy access, and preservation of the aesthetic value of the neighborhood and homes of our residents. But, over the past three years, the closure and disrepair of a vital bridge, an entrance to our community, has severely disrupted our lives on Oakhill Rd, Amherst Dr, and Meadowview Dr. Access to Crater Rd, a critical route, has dramatically increased from what was once a mere 0.1 mile journey to an arduous 1.2 miles. Residents are forced to go from Oakhill Rd, to Forest Hills Rd, to North Park Dr, then to Flank Rd. just to reach Crater Rd, which has increased our average driving distance by 483.84 miles per year, per driving resident.

This is not just a tale of increased fuel consumption or inconveniences; nor is it a tale of our roads not being repaired or paved in over 10 years, this is a story about community safety, wellbeing, and value of the homes in our neighborhood. The detour, coupled with speedy cars using our street to reach the Battlefield Park Subdivision, creates an unsafe environment for children, elderly, and all residents alike. Oakhill Rd, Amherst Dr, and Meadowview Dr are used as a walking, riding, and play area by  residents of Walnut Hill Gardens.

Therefore, we demand that the city take immediate action to repair this crucial entrance bridge, re-establishing the original accessibility to Crater Rd, reducing the unnecessary logistical strain and safety threats posed by the current situation.

Furthermore, we propose the implementation of a cul-de-sac in Walnut Hill Gardens to prevent speeding through our neighborhood, reinforcing safety and peace within our community.

Our city should uphold community values, and prioritize projects that serve to nurture, not tear apart, those shared bonds. It's time our local authorities listened to their constituents and took decisive action to repair our bridge and install a cul-de-sac to ensure safety and convenience for our residents.

We need your support to put this issue on our city's agenda. Please sign this petition to join our call for action!
