Demand Circle K Remove Crypto ATMs Used in Scams and Call for Investigation
The Issue
Thousands of Americans — many elderly, many vulnerable — have been scammed out of their life savings at one place: their local Circle K.
In recent years, Circle K stores across the U.S. have become a top location for crypto ATM scams, where fraudsters trick victims into converting their cash into cryptocurrency — money that becomes nearly impossible to recover. According to police and CNN investigations, scammers have targeted Circle K customers in dozens of cities, often directing them to Bitcoin Depot ATMs hosted inside the stores.
Circle K isn’t a bystander. It profits directly from these machines — sometimes earning hundreds of dollars per month per location — even after repeated warnings from employees, law enforcement, and victims. Employees have watched helplessly while seniors fed thousands into these machines. Some victims have lost their life savings.
Instead of removing the ATMs, Circle K renewed its deal with Bitcoin Depot, choosing profits over people. Meanwhile, other retailers have removed crypto ATMs after just one or two scams — proving that action is both possible and responsible.
We, the undersigned, call on Circle K and its parent company, Alimentation Couche-Tard, to immediately remove all crypto ATMs from their stores until they can guarantee the machines are no longer being used to exploit customers.
We also call on DOJ to investigate Circle K and Bitcoin Depot for scamming elderly out of money.
You can’t claim to care about “customer safety” while allowing known scam tools to operate inside your stores.
Crypto ATMs may be legal. But leaving them in place after hundreds of police calls and victim reports is not just reckless — it’s cruel.
Sign now to tell Circle K: Remove the crypto ATMs. Stop enabling scams.
