We condemn the anti-LGBTQ cartoon printed in the March 11th edition of Germantown Express News that is clearly intended to disrespect and bully a group of people that already is under attack. Transgender people deserve to live their lives in a safe, secure, and respectful environment. This cartoon is an expression of hate and fear. 

In a time of increased violence towards trans people, we should be providing support and understanding. This cartoon only contributes to this violence. Whoever is responsible for this being printed in a community newspaper should be held accountable.

We will refuse to take delivery of Express Newspapers until they take the following immediate actions:

1. Issue a public front page apology acknowledging the harm caused by printing the cartoon and the danger it poses to the LGBTQ+ community.
2. Terminate the contract with the provider of the comics.
3. Work with the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center to provide LGBTQ+ Inclusivity training for the entire Express News staff.
4. Make a monetary donation to the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center

You can refuse delivery by removing your paperbox entirely. If this is not an option, you can tape up a sign stating “hate is not welcome” in your paperbox. You can also insert a box blocking anything else from being placed in your paperbox.
