As a parent, my son is a pupil at Ysgol Heol Goffa. The promise of a new school meant the world to us - more support, better education and facilities, and most importantly, an environment that's safe for my child. For six years we have been waiting for this promise to be fulfilled by the Plaid-led council and Carmarthenshire County Council.

Unfortunately, they have decided not to build this desperately needed specialist school. This decision has left many families like ours feeling betrayed and our children's future uncertain. It is unacceptable that promises made to improve our children's education are being broken so casually.

Specialist schools play an essential role in providing tailored education for children with special needs. According to the Department of Education UK (2019), students in specialist settings often outperform their peers in mainstream settings on various measures including academic progress and personal development.

We cannot stand by while our children's futures are compromised due to political decisions that do not prioritize their needs. We urge the Plaid-led council and Carmarthenshire County Council to reconsider their decision and uphold their commitment towards building a new specialist school at Ysgol Heol Goffa.
