The Issue

Behind every elephant tusk and every rhinoceros horn is a life taken in violence.

In California, authorities recently seized hundreds of illegal wildlife products, including elephant tusks, rhino horns, walrus tusks, and other parts from protected animals. Officials have described this as one of the largest wildlife trafficking cases in recent years. These items did not come from antiques or curios. They came from animals that were killed or mutilated so their bodies could be sold for profit.

Elephants are intelligent, social animals who grieve their dead and protect their young. Rhinos are ancient, vulnerable species already pushed to the brink of extinction. Wildlife trafficking tears families apart, fuels organized crime, and accelerates the disappearance of some of the most iconic animals on Earth.

This is not a victimless crime. It is cruelty on an industrial scale.

Demand for ivory, rhino horn, and other animal parts persists because of myths about status, medicine, or fashion. Those lies are paid for with blood. Each seized tusk represents an elephant that will never walk, nurture its herd, or raise its young again. Each horn represents a rhino lost forever.

We are calling for the strongest possible prosecution of wildlife traffickers and meaningful consequences that reflect the harm they cause. Wildlife trafficking must be treated as the serious, violent crime that it is, not a low-risk business opportunity.

California has the chance to send a clear message that profiting from animal suffering will not be tolerated. Justice for these animals means accountability for those who exploit and kill them.

Sign this petition to stand up for elephants, rhinos, and all wildlife harmed by the illegal trade. Their lives matter, and their suffering should never be the price of profit.
