Demand Big US Home Builders to Adopt Sustainable Land Use Practices
The Issue
The time has come to ask for accountability from our nation's large-scale home builders such as Dr. Horton, Ryan Homes, PulteGroup, Toll Brothers and Lennar Corporation. These builders are significant contributors to the widespread deforestation in the United States. In fact, according to the U.S. Forest Service, urbanization is projected to result in the loss of 27 million hectares of forested volumes by 2060.
Our request to these home builders is two-fold:
1. We urge them to purchase and develop on farmland that is not currently being used or is in poor condition. This practice respects the ecosystem in areas already well-populated by trees, conserves wildlife habitats, and contributes to the fight against climate change.
2. We insist on the implementation of a tree-planting policy. For every tree they have to cut down, they should aim to replant double, or more.
Furthermore, we encourage these home builders to consider purchasing singular houses that are on significant plots of land. By doing so, they can tear down one house and construct multiple homes in its place, optimizing land use and minimizing environmental impact.
This isn't just about preventing deforestation; it's about building a sustainable future for all. We invite you to join us in holding these corporations accountable in the preservation of our treasured forests. Please sign and share this petition widely. Thank you.
