Some time back I appealed to the audience here to sign my petition against Fox TV and especially the producers and writers of the sitcom “New Girl”.
The momentum for this petition has stalled, and I feel the need to revive it at this juncture. This is the moment to garner that support I need to draw attention to a serious issue that compromises women’s freedom in America, especially Indian women.
Fox TV is decidedly “Red”. This is what the Republicans stand for. They’re bringing back oppression in all forms and making it stick via racial profiling. Hints of this being "in the offing” are all over that sitcom that only hires Indian if mingled in with “White” in some form. But that is not my main point of angst here.
I had held back the full nature of their transgressions in my earlier petition. The whole act of evil, as it pertains just to this sitcom, is this - One episode of this sitcom pits the topic of masturbation alongside monkeys in India. The message is clear. Are you horrified yet?
If you bring into context the events in the media at the time, and especially the art world, you will realize how truly horrid this is.
This should ideally be a case in a court of law however complicated the task. It is not easy to argue mental agony when the ridicule and taunt isn’t directed solely at me. Why am I the sole petitioner? Does it really hurt the sentiments of an entire race? Entire progressive section of a race? I have a few arguments, but I will not get into that here.
Meanwhile, I am seeking to catalog your reaction to this pitiful expression of sentiments via the medium of comedy and sitcoms. This is an abuse of the "freedom of speech". It is not true that Indian women are monkeying anyone as stated here. Broadcasting opinions of this nature is grossly insensitive.
Your support will go a long way when I plead with the FCC for action against Fox TV. Now is the time to put this on the record. That we tried should be inked in some form where it matters. That is of vital importance.
Thank You.
