Demand an End to Human Rights Violations in India

The issue

Ordinary people across India are being silenced and suffering under a growing wave of human rights abuses. Journalists critical of the government face intimidation and arrest, preventing them from exposing the truth. Students peacefully protesting for their rights are met with police brutality. Religious minorities, especially Muslims and Christians, live in fear of violence and discrimination, often fueled by hate speech and discriminatory policies. Women, particularly those from lower castes and marginalised communities, face a daily struggle against deeply ingrained sexism and exploitation. They are often trapped in low-paying, insecure jobs with little to no protection from abuse and harassment.

India's reputation as the world's largest democracy is at stake. If these abuses continue unchecked, India risks sliding towards authoritarianism, where dissent is crushed and fundamental freedoms are eroded. This will have devastating consequences for the lives of millions of Indians and undermine the country's progress and stability. The continued mistreatment of women hinders India's social and economic development and perpetuates cycles of poverty and inequality.

The situation is urgent. Every day, more people are being silenced, attacked, and denied their basic rights. We cannot stand by and watch as India's democracy is dismantled. We must act now to demand that the Indian government respect human rights, uphold freedom of expression, and protect the rights of all its citizens. It's time for the Indian government to take concrete action to address gender inequality, ensure the safety and security of women, and provide them with equal opportunities. Join us in calling for change before it's too late.

We demand that the Indian government:

  • Respect the right to freedom of expression and assembly.
  • End the targeting of religious minorities and ensure their safety and security.
  • Release all political prisoners and drop all charges against individuals exercising their right to dissent.
  • Restore basic human rights and civil liberties in Kashmir and engage in meaningful dialogue to resolve the conflict.
  • Enact and enforce laws to protect women from discrimination, violence, and exploitation in the workplace and in society.
  • Invest in education and economic opportunities for women to empower them and break cycles of poverty.
