The Issue

For too long, some of Woking's elderly and disabled residents have been suffering in silence due to neglect and mismanagement by those who have a 'Duty of Care' to protect and support them. I have witnessed firsthand the financial, physical, and mental distress inflicted upon  my most vulnerable neighbours by the Woking Housing Authority and lacklustre efforts to correct this by the local Woking MP and Councillors. It is heartbreaking and utterly unjustifiable to see our elderly and disabled loved ones treated this way. Our senior citizens have paved the way for future generations and deserve to live their golden years with dignity and respect, not burdened with unnecessary hardships and stress.

These residents in our community have been facing unfair financial burdens, inadequate housing conditions, and a lack of appropriate support services, Welfare checks or basic communication. These issues have taken a significant toll on their physical health and mental well-being, leaving them feeling isolated and helpless. The Woking Housing Authority, alongside our council and MP, MUST acknowledge the harm they’ve caused and take responsibility for their actions. Their failure to act in the best interests of the community can no longer be ignored.

Statistics show that elderly and disabled individuals are at a higher risk of financial exploitation and health complications when living in unstable environments. According to Age UK, over 1.8 million elderly individuals in the UK live in poverty, and the stress associated with poor living standards can lead to severe health issues such as cardiovascular disease and mental health disorders.

We, as a community, need to stand together to hold these authorities accountable, ensuring they issue a public apology and commit to immediate reforms. The Woking Housing Authority must allocate funds effectively to improve living conditions, provide adequate support services, and prioritize the well-being of the elderly and disabled population. Our MP must advocate for these changes at a governmental level, ensuring policies are put in place to protect our vulnerable community members.

Sign this petition to demand an apology and actionable change from the Woking Housing Authority and our MP. Together, we can make a difference for those who truly need our support. Let's ensure our elderly and disabled residents are given the respect, care, and quality of life they deserve.
