The Issue

Kathy Souza’s cat has been part of her family for 18 years. It’s the cat her kids grew up with — the cat that never wandered far from home in Somerset, Massachusetts. But one day, her beloved pet vanished. It didn’t run away. It didn’t get lost. According to neighbors and security footage, an Amazon driver allegedly took it.

Kathy says a nearby Airbnb guest saw the driver lure the cat with food, claiming she “was worried” about it and intended to take it. That alone is deeply troubling — but Ring camera footage appears to show the same driver spending nearly ten minutes coaxing the animal toward her van, placing food on the ground and eventually driving off with the cat. The animal was never seen again.

Kathy reported the incident to Somerset police, who are now investigating. Amazon responded by saying the behavior “doesn’t reflect [its] standards,” and promised to look into it. But a vague statement and a quiet internal review won’t help bring this pet home. It won’t fix the trauma of losing a family member in broad daylight, allegedly at the hands of someone entrusted with serving the public.

This isn’t just about one cat — it’s about what it means to feel safe in your neighborhood, to trust the people delivering to your door, and to know that a billion-dollar company will take real responsibility when things go wrong. When a driver wearing Amazon’s logo commits an act like this, it’s Amazon’s job to act like it matters.

Kathy doesn’t want headlines or lawsuits. She just wants her cat back. But if Amazon doesn’t take meaningful, public steps to investigate, locate the animal, and support the local police inquiry, more families could face the same heartbreak.

Add your name if you believe Amazon should do more than issue a hollow apology. It’s time they helped bring this pet home — and proved they’re worthy of the trust millions of people place in them every day.
