Demand Accountability: Remove Taylorville Library Board President
The Issue
The Issue
The Taylorville Public Library has become the beating heart of our community, a place where citizens go to grow, learn, and connect. Over the last year, under the leadership of a dedicated staff, the library has seen record-breaking engagement, with a surge in attendance for programs like the Summer Reading initiative, paint nights, and educational youth events.
But this momentum is now at risk.
The current President of the Taylorville Public Library Board of Trustees has prioritized internal agendas over the well-being of our community. By presiding over the recent, abrupt termination of our highly successful Library Director behind closed doors, despite overwhelming public opposition, the Board President has demonstrated a fundamental disconnect from the citizens they were appointed to serve.
Why this matters:
- The Loss of Leadership: We have lost a Director who brought innovation and transparency to our library.
- A Culture of Secrecy: Critical decisions affecting our tax-funded assets are being made in the shadows, with no regard for the voices of the parents, patrons, and taxpayers who fill these rooms every day.
- The Repercussions: We are already seeing the devastating ripple effect of this leadership, with vital staff leaving or being forced out, forcing the library to adjust to fewer hours of operation. If we do not stop this, the vibrant, welcoming environment that our children have come to love will be hollowed out.
The Call to Action
The Mayor of Taylorville holds the authority to hold board members accountable. We, the undersigned, demand that the Mayor act in the community's interest.
We call on the Mayor to initiate an immediate review of the Board President’s performance and proceed with their removal for failure to act in the public interest.
Taylorville deserves a library board that leads with transparency, respect, and a commitment to the people. We need leadership that understands that the library belongs to the community, not the Board.
Please sign this petition to demand accountability. Stand with us to protect our library’s future, honor our staff’s hard work, and ensure that our leadership finally starts listening to the voice of the people.
