Demand Accountability: Remove Dr. Vernicka R. Murray from Washington Elementary School

Demand Accountability: Remove Dr. Vernicka R. Murray from Washington Elementary School
The Issue
We, the concerned parents, guardians, and community members of Palm Beach County, demand the immediate administrative leave and investigation of Dr. Vernicka R. Murray, Principal of Washington Elementary School, following serious and repeated allegations of misconduct, ethical violations, and discrimination.
Dr. Murray has shown a pattern of behavior that endangers student well-being and violates federal civil rights protections, including but not limited to:
🔹 Violating the rights of a child with a 504 Plan, including punitive action for medically necessary accommodations backed by a physician.
🔹 Retaliation against a parent advocating for their child, including issuing a questionable trespass warning to silence concerns.
🔹 Loss and mishandling of crucial student medical records and accommodations shared during official meetings.
🔹 Driving to school on a suspended license for more than a week — a clear violation of Florida law and a safety concern for every child and staff member.
🔹 A documented history of ethics violations already acknowledged by the Florida Department of Education in a prior disciplinary case — including dishonesty, misrepresentation, and failing to disclose criminal records.
Despite repeated reports and formal complaints to district leadership, the Superintendent’s office, and even local law enforcement, there has been no meaningful response or protection offered to the affected students or families.
We call on the Palm Beach County School Board, the FLDOE, and all relevant agencies to:
Place Dr. Murray on immediate administrative leave pending a full, independent investigation.
Audit Washington Elementary’s handling of 504 Plans and student rights, including all related staff.
Reinstate transparency and accountability in leadership, especially when dealing with vulnerable students.
Protect students from retaliation and discriminatory practices.
Enough is enough. Our children deserve leaders who uphold the law, honor their duty of care, and put students before reputation.
