For instance, according to The Washington Post, by 2018, more than 2,700 children were separated from their parents under what was known as the zero-tolerance policy. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) highlights that this policy not only inflicted immediate trauma but also long-term psychological effects on children.
Moreover, a report from the Migration Policy Institute estimated that nearly 700,000 DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipients experienced heightened insecurity as the program's future became uncertain under Trump's directives.
