As a lifelong resident of the North Country, I’ve seen firsthand the impact of rising energy costs, corporate favoritism, and lack of transparency on families, seniors, and small businesses in our district. People are paying more every year, yet getting fewer answers about why.

Energy companies impacting New York communities continue to raise rates while operating with limited transparency. Families on fixed incomes, seniors, and small businesses across NY-21 are struggling under rising costs, while corporate profits continue to grow. This is unacceptable, and it must be addressed.

We are calling for federal oversight and accountability regarding energy pricing, billing practices, and market conduct affecting our communities.

Specifically, we are calling on Congresswoman Elise Stefanik to take immediate action and lead in Congress by pushing for a federal review involving the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and other appropriate authorities to:

1. Increase transparency in how energy rates are set  
2. Identify any anti-competitive or unethical practices  
3. Ensure consumers are being treated fairly  

I am Christopher Schmidt, an independent candidate for Congress in NY-21, and I am leading this effort because the people of this district deserve answers, transparency, and fair treatment.
