The Issue

The tragic case of Lindsay Clancy has brought to light a grim truth that many victims and their families have painfully borne for far too long: the severe adverse reactions and withdrawal symptoms of psychiatric drugs, including severe insomnia, akathisia, mania, psychosis, violent ideation towards self and others, and sexual dysfunction, are often denied, dismissed, or mistakenly diagnosed as 'mental illness' by prescribers. This negligent practice not only exacerbates the suffering of individuals but also leads to false diagnoses of mental illness, loss of careers, marriages, friends, hobbies and ultimately, lives.

For hundreds of thousands, the impact of this oversight is devastating. Families have witnessed their loved ones undergo drastic physical and behavioral changes, not as a continuation of their previous symptoms, but as new, drug-induced conditions. Instead of recognizing and addressing these adverse drug reactions, some healthcare professionals dismiss these concerns and choose to augment the medication regimen, a practice reminiscent of adding fuel to a fire—yielding tragic consequences.

Simultaneously, there is a disturbing profit-driven dynamic underlying the psychiatric drug industry. Academic physicians and institutions continue to conduct 'research' on these drugs, often ignoring or manipulating data to downplay adverse effects in favor of pharmaceutical companies. This creates an environment where the true impact on patients is obscured, and the cycle of misdiagnosis and overprescription perpetuates.

This must come to an end. We call on health regulatory authorities, medical institutions, and psychiatric professionals to take immediate and decisive action. For starters:

 1. **Implement Comprehensive Training: Require all psychiatric medication prescribers to undergo extensive training on biological-social root causes of depression, anxiety, and psychosis, as well as in recognizing adverse drug reactions and withdrawal symptoms. This includes a curriculum on differentiating between these symptoms and the progression of mental illness. Physicians who prescribe based on pharma marketing claims that have been proven scientifically false and who relay false information to patients or who ignore or minimize adverse reaction warnings should face revocation of their licenses to practice medicine.

2.**Require physicians to thoroughly test for root causes including nutritional and hormonal imbalances, sleep deprivation, trauma, and other stresses and to help the patient implement root cause solutions, using medications only as a last resort.

3. **Establish Transparent Reporting Systems: Create a robust, transparent system for reporting and reviewing psychiatric medication adverse events. Data gathered must be publicly available, facilitating independent reviews and necessary policy adjustments. Track demographics of patients on specific drugs, including how many patients are tapered, how many remain on the drugs long-term, and long-term patient outcomes.

4. **True informed consent: Informed consent should involve the physician reading out loud to the patient a form listing all adverse effects in detail, which the patient must sign. A patient must not be penalized or labelled non-compliant for rejecting medication.

5. ** Safety and Freedom: Allow patients who are hospitalized and who are not a threat to self or others to refuse medication without risk of involuntary confinement.

By implementing these measures, we can protect future patients from unnecessary harm and provide justice to those who have already suffered. Sign this petition to demand accountability and reform in the treatment of psychiatric drug prescriptions. Our collective voices can spur change and prevent further tragedy.
