The Issue

My name is April Atwood Moultrie, and I am writing on behalf of my family regarding a heartbreaking incident at my daughter’s grave at Fairview Cemetery, located at 1501 North New Street in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. My daughter was laid to rest there on July 22, 2025, and on March 6th, my father visited her grave, only to make a horrific discovery. He found my daughter’s casket visibly exposed, with a flap of dirt folded over the left side of the grave. This is something no parent should ever have to witness.

I am reaching out today because this situation has been profoundly devastating for our entire family, exacerbating our grief over the loss of my daughter. This incident has impacted not only myself and my spouse, but also my children, my parents, and the many individuals in our community who loved our daughter and have supported us through this challenging time. The mental anguish from losing my child is a burden I carry every day, and this appalling negligence has only intensified our suffering.

I reached out to the cemetery owner at Fairview cemetery on December 20th at 213pm and told him my concerns that my daughters grave was sinking rapidly he did not respond to me at all. When I messaged him again on the 6th of marchhe advised there was dirt my the shed and my family should refill it. He lives on the property and from dec 20 2025 til March 6 he just neglected my daughters grave.
It is unacceptable that proper care was not taken to ensure my daughter's resting place was maintained with the dignity and respect it deserves. A cemetery should be a sacred place, a sanctuary where the deceased rest peacefully and the grieving can find solace. The sheer negligence in handling and maintaining the grave has shattered this sanctuary for our family.

We demand immediate accountability and corrective measures from Fairview Cemetery and its management. Specifically, we call for a thorough review of their maintenance procedures, implementation of stringent quality checks, and an audit to ensure that no other families have to endure this heart-wrenching negligence. Additionally, I urge the local authorities to conduct an independent investigation into this matter and enforce regulations that protect all gravesites from such negligence.

This isn’t just about my family. It’s about ensuring that no family has to experience the agony of seeing their loved one’s final resting place disrespected in such an egregious manner. It is crucial that Fairview Cemetery addresses this inexcusable lapse and restores our faith in their ability to care for those who have passed.

Please sign this petition to hold Fairview Cemetery accountable and to protect the sanctity of resting places for all families in our community.
