The Issue

To the Authorities Charged with Upholding Law and Order,

We, the concerned citizens of India, strongly urge the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, and the Delhi Police not to withdraw FIRs filed against individuals accused of violence, rioting, or mob behavior during the recent Jantar Mantar protests.

Why This Matters

The Constitution of India guarantees every citizen the fundamental right to peaceful assembly and democratic protest. However, this right does not extend to mob violence, property damage, or assault on law enforcement personnel.

While peaceful protesters should never be harassed, granting blanket immunity or dropping criminal charges against those who engaged in rioting sets a dangerous precedent. It undermines public safety, dilutes the rule of law, and disincentivizes peaceful civic engagement.

Our Demands

1. Maintain Distinction in Law: Differentiate between peaceful dissenters and individuals named in FIRs for violent, non-bailable offences (such as rioting, assault on public servants, and destruction of public property).

2. Ensure Fair Legal Process: Allow the judicial process to run its course transparently rather than politically or administratively withdrawing cases of mob violence.

3. Uphold Equal Accountability: Ensure that those responsible for acts of vandalism or violent conduct face due process under the Indian Penal Code / Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Rule of law must apply equally to everyone. Allowing violent acts to go unpunished compromises public safety and degrades trust in our justice system.

We call on the authorities to uphold justice and refuse the withdrawal of FIRs against violent offenders.
