"Demand Accountability and Transparency in Hurricane Melissa 🖤💛💚 Aid Allocation‼️"
The Issue
In 2005, I survived the catastrophic chaos of Hurricane Katrina. The storm nearly obliterated New Orleans and left an indelible mark on my life and that of countless others. Today, as a humanitarian, I stand in empathy and urgency, closely resonating with the people of Jamaica in the wake of Hurricane Melissa that struck on October 28, 2025. This disaster has shattered homes, lives, and the spirit of a nation. It is a haunting reminder of the past, yet also a call to action for the present.
The United States Government, recognizing the dire need of the Jamaican people, has extended significant support in the form of $22 million dollars and additional humanitarian aid supplies. These resources are crucial for the relief and recovery of those affected by the hurricane. However, the effective utilization of this aid hinges on transparency and accountability from the Jamaica Government, specifically the Jamaica Labourite Party, led by Prime Minister Andrew Michael Holness.
We demand that Prime Minister Holness and his party provide clear, detailed accounts of how these funds and supplies are allocated and used. It is imperative that every cent reaches the intended beneficiaries to ensure that recovery efforts are maximized and that aid does not fall into the wrong hands. The people of Jamaica have a right to know exactly how international support is being managed and distributed.
Let's push for a transparent system where each step of the allocation process is open for public scrutiny. The establishment of an independent oversight committee to monitor and report on the expenditure and distribution of these funds can provide the reassurance needed by both the Jamaican people and international aid contributors.
This is not just about accountability; it is about building trust and ensuring that humanitarian assistance truly reaches and benefits those who need it most in this critical time of recovery. Join me in demanding transparency from the Jamaican government to honour the spirit of international solidarity and humanitarian support.
Please sign this petition to call on Prime Minister Andrew Michael Holness and the Jamaican authorities to uphold these principles of transparency and accountability for the sake of all Jamaicans affected by Hurricane Melissa. Your signature can make a difference.
