The Issue

On a tragic day, my daughter was involved in a fatal car crash. As she lay there, critically injured, witnesses frantically tried to get help, dialing 999 in hopes of swift emergency assistance. To our utter disbelief and horror, no emergency services arrived to aid her or the others involved for a staggering 20 minutes. Those precious minutes could have saved lives or at least provided comfort in those despairing moments.

This was not a mere oversight but a grave error by the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) call handler, who failed to send any emergency service for 16 critical minutes. While we understand that mistakes can occur, such a critical lapse that potentially led to the loss of life cannot be ignored or excused. Despite the grievous nature of this error, NWAS continues to keep this call handler employed, which is a slap in the face to the families affected and a risk to future incidents.

In emergency situations, every second counts, and the assurance of a rapid response is what the public relies on when they make that distressing 999 call. Failure to act should lead to accountability and changes ensuring such negligence doesn't repeat.

We are calling on NWAS to take urgent and decisive action. We demand a thorough investigation into the call handler's actions on that day and clear consequences for unacceptable failures in duty. Furthermore, procedures should be re-evaluated and improved to prevent such horrific negligence in the future.

This petition seeks to not only highlight the failures but to instigate a change that ensures no other family has to endure the heart-wrenching loss that we did due to systemic failure and human error.

Please, sign this petition and help us hold NWAS accountable, and make sure our emergency services are reliable and effective.
