The Issue

On Feb 9, 2023, what should have been a day of joy and celebration among friends and family, a tragic accident changed everything. Cameron Garcia was with his loved ones, looking forward to wonderful memories, when the unimaginable happened. Faith Samuel lost control of the vehicle at a staggering speed of 100mph and smashed into a tree. The only survivor, Cameron was thrown from the vehicle in a manner that, he desperately insists, proves he was not driving. Given the condition of the vehicle it’s a miracle there was any survivors. He lost 4 friends and his niece Aahliya Garcia in one of the deadliest crashes in Sacramento, California. Despite the context and evidence, he was sentenced to 188 years for a crime he did not commit.

Cameron’s conviction is based on five counts of gross vehicular manslaughter, amongst other charges like evading police and carjacking. However, witnesses and multiple professionals, including forensic experts, have testified that the injuries sustained by Faith confirm that she was the one behind the wheel. The courts showed total disregard to Aahliya’s life lost and ignored she was even apart of the case. Critical expert testimony and the truth of what happened that devastating day was also ignored.

This miscarriage of justice must not continue unchecked. Cameron Garcia was sleep at the time of the crash and witnesses have confirmed that. Cameron Garcia is not responsible for the tragic outcomes of that crash, and it is imperative that his case is re-assessed with compassion and a critical eye on the facts. A young man’s life hangs in the balance, one currently marked by injustice despite the evidence in his favor. The essence of our justice system is fairness and truth; it is failing Cameron, the victims and victims families at this moment .

By signing this petition, you stand for truth and fairness. Let’s urge the authorities to review and overturn this unjust conviction for a man who is surely suffering enough without adding the burden of an unjust 188 year sentence for a crime he did not commit. Please sign and share our plea for Cameron Garcia's freedom and justice for his niece Aahliya Garcia age 17 at the time and four others whose life was lost in that crash. Letters to Congress woman Doris Matsui to make the change and review his case are highly appreciated also. The said findings are true facts. We want his story told truthfully.
