This cause is deeply personal to me: some people, including close friends and family, who mailed in their votes never got their rightful chance to be heard. When fires ravaged certain areas in our country, thousands of mail-in ballots were destroyed before they could reach their respective polling stations. Our democracy thrives on the participation of every citizen, an ideal that was poorly reflected in the recent election. It is estimated by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission that potentially 28.3 million mail-in ballots went missing between 2012-2018. The current situation stands as a stark reminder of this statistic. While recognizing the value of mail-in ballots for those who genuinely need it, we believe the process requires a review to ensure fairness.
