Demand a Public Retraction of False Statements About Alex Pretti

The Issue

After Alex Pretti was shot and killed by federal agents in Minneapolis, senior officials made public statements portraying him as a violent threat.

Those statements are now contradicted by the government’s own findings.

An initial Department of Homeland Security report confirms that two federal officers fired their weapons, but it does not state that Alex Pretti attacked officers or brandished a gun. Multiple verified videos show that he did not hold a weapon during the struggle. A gun was recovered only after he was shot.

Despite this, President Donald Trump and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem publicly suggested that Pretti posed extreme danger and implied criminal intent. These claims were made before facts were established and before investigations were complete.

That is unacceptable.

When the government misrepresents the actions of someone it killed, it damages public trust, prejudices investigations, and harms the victim’s family. Officials have a duty to speak accurately — especially when lives are lost.

We are calling on President Donald Trump and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem to publicly retract their statements about Alex Pretti and correct the record.

This is not about politics.
It is about truth, accountability, and basic human dignity.

If officials can make false claims with no correction, justice cannot be trusted.
