The Issue

The tragic events that unfolded in Tumbler Ridge have left an indelible mark on our tight-knit community. My name is Ronda Cantin, and I am a resident of this small town, which has been reshaped forever by the loss and heartache experienced by all. We owe it to the memories of Abel, Tici, Emmett, Ezekiel, Zoe, Kylie, Jen, and Shannda to seek the truth, foster understanding, and learn from this tragedy. Locals know that these individuals and Jesse, along with their families, were failed by multiple agencies, and we need an opportunity to fully comprehend how these failures occurred. This isn't merely about punishment; it is about ensuring ongoing accountability that will lead to safer, healthier schools and communities.

A coroner’s inquest, the current path being taken, offers no guarantee of public transparency. By having it behind closed doors, it will deprive us of vital insights and answers that only a public inquiry can provide. We need a public outlet where the facts can be put on the table and scrutiny can bring about the changes necessary to prevent future catastrophes.

The importance of this public inquiry lies in its potential to shine a light on systemic issues and avenues for improvement. It is imperative that we understand where responsibilities lapsed and develop robust measures to address the shortcomings within our systems.

Support this petition to ensure the voices of Tumbler Ridge are heard and respected. By signing, you can play an integral role in advocating for a transparent handling of this tragedy, demanding accountability, and contributing to the inception of safer communities. Please add your name and voice to this vital cause for change and betterment.
