DEMAND A NEW ORIOLES GM FOCUSED ON ELITE PITCHING AND DEFENSE
The Issue
We, the fans of the Baltimore Orioles, are formally calling on David Rubenstein and the ownership team to appoint a dedicated General Manager who will prioritize elite starting pitching and a lockdown defense. While Mike Elias's front office has found massive success developing young bats and landing stars like Pete Alonso, our mid-point 2026 season is rapidly slipping away due to structural roster negligence.
As of July 6, 2026, the Orioles sit below .500 (42-49) and are languishing in 4th place in the AL East, a massive 12 games out of first. The current organizational strategy has left us entirely unequipped to manage unavoidable pitching adversity.
A Fragile, Ineffective Rotation: Our offseason strategy relied on low-cost flyers and aging veterans. With Chris Bassitt sporting a 5.27 ERA before landing on the Injured List—joining Zach Eflin, Dean Kremer, and Cade Povich on the shelf—the rotation has been stretched to its absolute breaking point.
The Single-Month Mirage: While a recent 30-game stretch showed flashes of an AL-leading 3.27 ERA thanks to Kyle Bradish, it has masked the deeper truth: we are forcing rookies like Trey Gibson into roles they aren't ready for because the front office refused to acquire established, elite frontline aces.
Defensive Faltering: Baltimore continues to rank in the bottom tier of league fielding metrics. Giving away free bases and extra outs leaves our young, depleted pitching staff with zero margin for error.
Our Demands
Hire a Dedicated, Proven GM: We need a general manager solely focused on identifying and trading for elite, prime-aged arms. The "homegrown or bust" pitching philosophy is failing.
Aggressively Finance Frontline Starters: With ownership's deep resources, settling for mid-tier veterans is unacceptable. We demand competitive pursuit of elite, available frontline starting pitching to anchor this staff.
Modernize the Defense: Prioritize advanced defensive metrics in player acquisition to patch our bottom-ranking outfield defense and give our pitchers real support.
The Baltimore championship window is open right now, but we cannot waste the prime years of Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, and Jackson Holliday. We deserve a front office that matches the urgency of the fans.
