The Issue

Cats are dying in Weatherford, and the community deserves answers. Over the past several weeks, multiple cats have been found dead in various parts of the city. Some were confirmed to have ingested antifreeze. Others showed signs of illness and were later found to have respiratory viruses.

But many residents are not convinced that illness is the only cause. The sudden increase in cat deaths, including animals found near each other with no signs of trauma, has raised alarm among pet owners and animal lovers. Despite this, Weatherford Police say they cannot confirm whether any crime was committed.

That is not enough. When companion animals are dying in public places, and poisoning has already been confirmed in some cases, the default response should be serious investigation, not dismissal.

This petition calls on the Weatherford Police Department to treat these incidents as suspected animal cruelty cases until all facts are known. That means conducting toxicology tests on more of the deceased cats, expanding the investigation to identify any patterns, and being transparent with the public.

We also ask the department to work with local animal welfare groups and veterinarians to monitor the situation and offer public updates. Extra patrols are helpful, but they are not a substitute for clear investigative action.

Animals cannot speak for themselves. It is up to us to raise our voices when their lives are at risk. Whether this is cruelty, neglect, or a tragic environmental hazard, the people of Weatherford have a right to know the truth and to trust that these deaths are not being ignored.

Sign this petition to demand a full investigation and justice for the cats of Weatherford.
