Cleaning and maintenance of Sanjay Lake

Cleaning and maintenance of Sanjay Lake
The Issue
Birds need water for drinking and bathing. Water is particularly important during the winter when natural supplies may be frozen and in dry, hot weather during the summer when water can be hard to find.
Birds have no sweat glands, so they need less water than mammals. However, they do lose water through respiration and in their droppings. Most small birds need to drink at least twice a day to replace the lost water. This is a shot from Sanjay Lake. Further, factories functioning in Trilokpuri village discharge toxic waste and the The DDA has failed to maintain the Sanjay lake.
Two decades ago, the Sanjay Lake used to be virtually a jungle. Initially, the DDA did a commendable job by clearing the bushes and wild grass, building pathways for walkers and joggers along the lake and planting saplings. But over the past decade, the Authority has frittered away a golden opportunity to preserve the lake.Earlier, it used to attract a large number of diverse species, particularly long distant exotic migratory birds. However, the lake has now unfortunately turned into just an entertainment park with a degraded wetland habitat. Now it has low water this season and a huge dip in migratory species visiting the lake. The toxic content of the water is also increasing day by day. Authorities need to get this issue addressed right away.
