Delay the CMS Board Vote on South County Relief Schools Boundaries

The Issue

The CMS Board is scheduled to vote on the South County relief schools boundaries on June 6 at 6pm. However, we believe that this decision should be delayed for further consideration and review.

There has been limited opportunity for public input on the most recent draft released at 5:30pm on Monday May 15. While there have been some community meetings held to discuss the proposed boundaries, many parents feel that their voices have not been heard or taken into account. In addition, many drastic changes to our school community appeared in this final draft that didn't previously exist. This includes introducing new and unnecessary feeder pattern splits, new school assignments, and a worsening of both home/school distances and utilization.

Given these concerns and uncertainties surrounding the South County relief schools boundaries proposal, we urge the CMS Board to delay its vote until further review can be conducted. This will allow for more thorough analysis of all potential impacts of this decision on students and families in our community.
