Delay data center construction around Granite City

Delay data center construction around Granite City
The Issue
I’m committed to raising my family in this community and want to see Granite City flourish for all who call it home. While development is crucial, transparency should never take a backseat. Currently, there are proposals for constructing a new data center in or around Granite City. Before any such projects commence, it is crucial that all aspects are thoroughly examined and shared openly with the community.
Firstly, no construction contracts should be signed until every individual and corporate investor involved is disclosed. Transparency in this matter isn't just a bureaucratic formality; it's a fundamental right. The residents of Granite City must know who is investing in their community and what their intentions are.
Furthermore, the environmental, social, and economic impacts of a data center must be discussed openly and sincerely. Will this development lead to a better quality of life, or will it strain local resources like water, electricity, and infrastructure? If utility bills are expected to rise, this potential impact should be shown to the public beforehand, allowing residents to prepare and voice their concerns.
Lastly, we demand that any Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) that bound information inside secrecy be waived. NDAs should not be used as barriers preventing the community from knowing exactly what’s happening with large constructions that could drastically affect their environment and lifestyle.
A thriving Granite City should be built on a foundation of trust and collaboration between the developers and the community. I urge the Granite City leadership to ensure full transparency and open dialogue before proceeding with the data center construction.
Sign this petition to stand with me in advocating for transparency, open discussion, and community involvement in decisions that impact all of us. Together, let’s work towards developing Granite City responsibly and sustainably.
